What’s Next?
So…what’s next?? As with any skill, the more you practice, the better you get!
There are a number of opportunities to skate more, improving skating skills, and advancing in the sport.
Learn to Skate class
on Monday nights – First, we highly recommend that you continue these classes.
They include ice time and instruction for a very reasonable price. Register online at erpr.org. for Basic 4 & 5.
Junior Club class
on Saturday mornings – Second, this class
is offered from 10:10 a.m. – 11:20 a.m. It includes ½ hour of instruction on the ice and ½
hour instruction off the ice (teaching skills that will help with on-ice performance). This class is also
reasonably priced. Must be in Basic 4 or above.
Edge, Spin, Jump class on Wednesday evenings – Third, this class is offered from 4:35 p.m. – 6:05 p.m. This class consists
of ½ hour edgework, ½ hour jumps, and ½ hour spins. Skaters are separated into three
levels based on skill and they receive instruction the entire time. Must be in Basic 6 or above.
“Team Express” Program – Fourth, this program consists of three levels to choose from:
Bronze Level = Monday nights, Silver Level = Monday nights and Junior Club, and Gold Level = Monday nights,
Junior Club, and Edge, Spin, Jump class. The goal is to advance the skater through the Learn to Skate levels
more quickly without having the cost of purchasing contract ice or private lessons, which can add up quickly.
Private Lessons – Fifth, if your skater is participating in the Junior Club or Edge, Spin, Jump
class, they are eligible to purchase one hour of contract ice per week until the next club membership year begins,
annually on July 1st. During this time, they would be able to receive a private lesson or a group lesson.
Once you have chosen a coach, they are considered your Head Coach until you formally discontinue your coaching
relationship. At this age, skaters do not need more than one coach.
Club Membership – Finally, at any time, you may choose to join the Elk River Figure Skating Club. You
may participate in all of the above, but there are additional benefits to joining the club, such as you may purchase as many
hours of contract ice as you wish. Skaters also receive the monthly “Skating” magazine and
are eligible for all the other club benefits.
